Ipswich is one of England’s oldest towns, with a history that dates back to Anglo Saxon times (7th and 8th centuries). The 7th century town was situated near the quay, and over time grew into the Buttermarket area.This history is evident in it’s well preserved architecture and parts of the ancient road plan still survive in its streets. The Ipswich Museum has many artifacts and exhibits from Anglo Saxon onto Victorian era displays.
The Waterfront

One of the local theatres was named after Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who was born in Ipswich. The mansion is home to an amazing collection of art, including works by renowned artists Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable.
