Brightlingsea is a pretty coastal town, situated midway between Colchester and Clacton (approximately 11 miles to both to opposite directions) it is easily accessed from the A120.
It has one of the few remaining lidos – which opened in 1933 and was recently renovated. The lido is very popular with residents and visitors alike. The High Street is very traditional and has a good offering of independent shops like Little Boat Gifts, Brightlingsea Bakery and Freelands Farm shop as well as the local Spar.
The town is almost completely surrounded by the River Colne, and is a Cinque Port, having ceremonial days during the year with the Freemen of Brightlingsea.
Brightlingsea offers lovely views out towards Mersea Island, and across Point Clear with stunning sunsets. The foot ferry runs a regular service to the lovely Cudmore Grove, East Mersea and Point Clear where you can see many local birds and wildlife.
